On Podcast Episode 184, Andrew and Julie welcome into the studio Dr. David Wilkes, an English professor at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Ohio. Working twenty-two years as a professor of English, Dr. Wilkes has enjoyed the opportunity to educate two decades of students and has seen firsthand the postmodern world’s impact on students. During the podcast Andrew and Dr. Wilkes discuss many topics, one of which is how to write properly and clearly. Since Dr. Wilkes first started working with students, he has seen how the Internet has overwhelmed students with what he terms â€Å"a proliferation of information.† He states that today’s students, due to this proliferation, know fewer things about more things and as a result need more help in their academics. Much more importantly, Dr. Wilkes asserts that as a teacher and mentor, he must lead students, who are away from home and family for the first time, to own their Christian faith. They need to ask themselves the question: What do I believe? Are you wondering if writing skills are in decline as compared with twenty years ago? Or are you interested in having your student sit for the AP Literature and Composition exam? How can you help your student prepare? Do you have a student who wants to become an author and is questioning how to sharpen his skills? Listen to the podcast to learn what Dr. Wilkes and Andrew have to say on those topics and many others as well. You will hear Dr. Wilkes explain what he means when he describes the â€Å"movement from knowledge connected to truth, and how it leads to wisdom.† This is a fascinating and important podcast filled with many insights culled from years and years of teaching.
